Las Vegas KENO
"Just like VEGAS!"
by
George Batalias
Corvette BBS
Las Vegas, Nevada
FidoNet 1:209/218
(702) 431-2284 (USR Sportster 14.4)
(702) 431-2031 (USR Sportster 14.4)
(702) 431-9017 (USR Sportster 14.4)
OVERVIEW
________
This door game is very similar to the KENO games in Las Vegas.
Many who have visited Las Vegas are familiar with a KENO game.
Watching a screen on the wall while eating, playing 21, sitting
at the bar or even just walking through a casino and seeing 20
numbers on an 80 number screen light up as little white balls are
sucked from the KENO machine in the KENO room by the KENO CREW
of the casino every 10 minutes or so. Some players sit for hours,
betting PARLEY cards and WAY BETS. Betting a minimum 60 cents a card
each game or maybe go for the $100.00 card.
The idea is to pick any where from 1 to 15 numbers out of 80 numbers.
Place a BET of from $1 to $999 and see what the computer picks for the
20 numbers. A payoff table can be viewed to see what the payoff would
be for any number of allowable picks and matches. I believe your users
will find Las Vegas KENO an enjoyable and fun game to play on your BBS.
After all, Las Vegas KENO is "Just like VEGAS"!
DOOR ERRORS
-----------
NOTE: Most errors will be logged to a file called DFRAME.ERR which is
created in the directory you run Las Vegas KENO from.
Also, a log called ERROR.LOG will be written to in the
LVKENO directory or whatever directory you decide to put
Las Vegas KENO in. On ANY errors Las Vegas KENO will close
its files, notify the player (if possible) and gracefully
exit back to the BBS...........
*********************************************************************
Although, you can run the UNREGISTERED version of LAS VEGAS KENO
as long as you like, registering LAS VEGAS KENO will unlock its
full potential. You are NOT REQUIRED to REGISTER this shareware
version of Las Vegas KENO. You may run the UNREGISTERD version
of Las Vegas KENO as long as you like!
I feel that the UNREGISTERED version of Las Vegas KENO should not
have a limited number of days to run if it isn't registered.
And, if you run it on your BBS long enough it will more than likely
be registered sooner or later. =:)
BUT..........
Please support SHAREWARE and REGISTER your Las Vegas KENO. You and
your users will be glad you did!
Thankyou for trying Las Vegas KENO!
*********************************************************************

INSTALLATION
____________
Installation is fairly easy and straight-forward. The following steps and
examples should have you up and running in a very short period of time.
It is assumed that you are familiar with setting up DOORS on your system.
To this end, only examples of the configuration file and Door batch file
are described.
1) Create a directory to hold all LVKENO file
2) Unzip LVKENOxx.ZIP into the the above directory
After unzipping and before you set up the LVKENO.CFG file as
required, you can check out LVKENO by typing:
LVKENO /LOCAL
This will allow the SysOp to check LVKENO out BEFORE even
looking at or messing with the LVKENO.CFG file.
LOCAL play will play in REGISTERED MODE.
LVKENO.CFG is required to be properly setup for other than
local play.......
3) There are 2 files needed for LVKENO to run over the modem
LVKENO.CFG and SYSOP.DEF
Both are editable with any text editor and both are required
to run Las Vegas KENO as BBS Door.
Edit/modify the supplied LVKENO.CFG file to match
your BBS sytem. A description follows:
LVKENO.CFG:
Line #
1- C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Location of SYSTEM FILE (see below)
** = Replace with ONE of the following:
C:\BBS\PCBOARD.SYS <- For PCBoard systems using PCBOARD.SYS only
C:\BBS\CALLINFO.BBS <- For Wildcat! systems (prior to v3.0)
C:\BBS\DOOR.SYS <- For ANY systems that support DOOR.SYS
C:\BBS\DORINFOx.DEF <- For ANY systems that support DORINFOx.DEF
C:\BBS\SFDOORS.DAT <- For Spitfire systems.
C:\BBS\TRIBBS.SYS <- For TriBBS systems.
2- CORVETTE BBS Your BBS Name
3- George Sysop's First name
4- Batalias Sysop's Last Name
The above is all that is needed in the LVKENO.CFG file.
Lines after the 4th line are ignored. They are there for clarity.
Only the first 4 lines are needed or read.
-----------------------------
-----------------------------
:
NEXT, You must update the SYSOP.DEF file for your system....
SYSOP.DEF is a straight ASCII file.
Any text editor can be used to edit the SYSOP.DEF for your system.
DO NOT CALL THE SYSOP.DEF FROM THE COMMANDLINE. It is HARD CODED
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
into the program and automatically looked for and read....

4) Create a batch file or modify the LVKENO file supplied. A
description of this file follows:
ECHO off
CD\BBS\DOORS\LVKENO Location of LVKENO files
LVKENO LVKENO.CFG EXE filename and CFG filename
CD\BBS <- OPTIONAL, if your BBS needs it!
BOARD <- optional, if your BBS needs it!
Note on LOCAL play:
For LOCAL PLAY by the SysOp, to check LVKENO before you
set it up on your BBS, TYPE
LVKENO /LOCAL
^
Note the /
The LVKENO.CFG file is NOT NEEDED FOR LOCAL PLAY ONLY!
This will give the SysOp a chance to evaluate the game almost
as if it were registered even if it is NOT REGISTERED.....
Sample BULLETINS will be made in the LVKENO directory called
BULL50.BBS and BULL50.SCR
In any LOCAL PLAY, the name of the player is always SysOp
Please Note the / before LOCAL...
With the /LOCAL
ie : LVKENO /LOCAL
LVKENO will use hard coded parameters and NOT read any
configuration file or data files. It will run in
FULL REGISTERED Mode, allowing the SysOp to play as if
LVKENO was registered.
No BBS Drop File (ie: DOOR.SYS, etc.) is needed to run in
local mode.......
5) Using ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES FOR MULTI-NODE SYSTEMS is
highly recommended.
If your system can not pass ENVIRONENTAL VARAIABLES when
running a door then :
When running on more than one BBS node, be sure to supply a
different configuration name for each node (your choice of name).
LVKENO1.CFG
LVKENO2.CFG
etc.
Use LVKENO LVKENO1.CFG for node 1. Be sure to edit LVKENO1.CFG to
reflect your NODE 1 system.
Use LVKENO LVKENO2.CFG for node 2. Be sure to edit LVKENO2.CFG to
reflect your NODE 2 system
OR see further below how to setup a multinode LVKENO game using
environmental variable.....
When calling the door from the batch file WITHOUT using
environmental variables do this :
For node 1
LVKENO LVKENO1.CFG
For Node 2
LVKENO LVKENO2.CFG
etc.
6) FOSSIL USE
LVKENO wil run under a FOSSIL DRIVER if desired. Otherwise,
internal DOOR FRAME comm routines are used.
If running with a Fossil or Fossil-based multi-port boards add
/FD to the line containing the CFG name as follows:
LVKENO LVKENO.CFG /FD
NON-STANDARD COM SUPPORT
________________________
Support for COM 1-4 on the standard IRQ's - COM1/COM3 = IRQ4 and
COM2/COM4 = IRQ3. If you wish to use a non-standard IRQ, add the IRQ
number after the configuration filename. Let's assume you want to
LVKENO to use COM1 and IRQ5. The command line passed to LVKENO
would be:
LVKENO LVKENO.CFG /5
The /5 tells LVKENO to use IRQ5 rather than the standard IRQ4 that is
normally used with COM1. No /x parameter is needed for the standard
IRQ's.
As an alternative, you may use an environmental variable on the command
line. To use the variable (following the example above), place a
SET IRQ=5 in the batch file used to bring up your BBS (you would need a
different IRQ number for each node). The command line would now look
like this:
LVKENO LVKENO.CFG /%IRQ%
^
Note the /
This, in combination with the use of the environmental variables
described in the MULTI-NODE SETUP section will allow you to use one
batch file and one config file to run this door on all nodes.
MULTI-NODE SETUP
________________
LAS VEGAS KENO is Multi-Node capable. Each node must have the
ability to access a configuration file which will have its own system
file (DORINFOx.DEF, PCBOARD.SYS, DOOR.SYS, etc) defined on the first
line. There are 2 ways to accomplish this:
(1) Create a separate configuration file for each node. The only
difference between each file would be the location of the system
file for that particular node. For example, on my system there are
4 nodes so 4 config files would be needed.
The first line of the config files would look like this:
For NODE1--> H:\PCB1\DOOR.SYS
For NODE2--> H:\PCB2\DOOR.SYS
or
For NODE1--> C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS
For NODE2--> C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE2\DOOR.SYS
Thus, if you have a 2 node BBS, you will need
2 configuration files.
--> OR <--
->> FOR EASIER MULTINODE SETUP <<--
USING ENVIRONMENTAL VARIABLES
-----------------------------
(2) Use ONE configuration file for ALL nodes. LAS VEGAS KENO will
recognize the following PCBoard/Wildcat environmental variables:
PCBDIR (Directory containing the System file)
PCBDRIVE (Drive containing the System file)
WCNODEID (Active Node Number) <---- Wildcat
Thus, the first line of the SINGLE configuration file, for
LAS VEGAS KENO would look like this:
%PCBDRIVE%%PCBDIR%\DOOR.SYS
or
C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE%WCNODEID%\DOOR.SYS
NOTE: This option, as described, assumes that you are running PCB or
Wildcat software. The environmental variables are automatically
created by the software for each node.
HOWEVER, if you are running other BBS software you should be able
to set the variables EXACTLY as described below, for EACH node
(more than likely in each batch file you use to bring
up EACH node):
PCBDRIVE=C:
^^^^^^^^^
PCBDIR=\NODE2
^^^^^^^^
Info with a carat (^) under it, MUST be typed as is. The rest
depends on your naming conventions.
This, in combination with the use of the optional environmental
variable described in the NON-STANDARD COM SUPPORT section, will
allow you to use ONE batch file and ONE config file to run this
door on ALL nodes.
TROUBLESHOOTING
---------------
(1) If you are running this Door on a 486 system and encounter errors
such as:
ERROR 6.... OVERFLOW Error
ERROR 5.... ILLEGAL Function Call (may be associated with other problems)
KEYBOARD Timeout after 5 minutes
You may have to put the following line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
SET NO87=ON
(2) If you encounter an Error 62 (Input Past End of File), BEFORE you see
the opening screen of the Door, your problem will more than likely be
associated with the CFG file. The error 62 means that you do not
have enough entries in the CFG.
Compare your CFG file with the CFG file in this DOC file AND the
BAT files included with this software.
(3) If you encounter an ERROR 70... Permission Denied, this will more than
likely mean that you DO NOT have SHARE loaded. SHARE is a DOS file that
comes with your version of DOS. To load it type the word SHARE at the DOS
prompt. To load it permanently type the word SHARE on a line by itself in
your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, any place prior to the loading of your BBS
software. There have been numerous reports that loading SHARE high causes
some problems, so to be on the safe side, do not load it high.
SHARE must be laoaded into your system for MULTI-USER LVKENO... Otherwise
you may get share violations..........
(4) SysOp.log:
UNREGISTERED VERSION will have the SysOp.log file appended to
after a player exits LAS VEGAS KENO. This can and will get quite
long. You can delete the SysOp.log if it does.
REGISTERED VERSION will only append the SysOp.log every Monday
when the game is reset. If it does get to long, you can just delete
it.
(5) MANUAL RESET:
To manually RESET LAS VEGAS KENO, just delete the RESET.DAT file
Should you have any questions or problem, please do not hesitate to call
CORVETTE BBS... 702-431-2284 or any one of the other node #'s any time!
I will try and respond to your LVKENO problems as soon as possible
